PITTSBURGH, PA & ONLINE, WORLDWIDE — September 4, 2021 — The Rehumanize Conference will educate, engage, and activate individuals from all walks of life on the value of and respect due to every human being. The #Rehumanize2021 Conference, hosted via the online Hopin platform, will include sessions focused on some of the most important issues of our day related to peace and life including abortion, euthanasia, war, torture, and capital punishment. They will also have several workshops where you can gain practical guidance on how to put pro-peace and pro-life principles into action in law, culture, and politics.
Aimee Murphy, the founder of Rehumanize, declared that “One major bonus to this online model is that it allows folks from all over the world to tune in and learn more about the Consistent Life Ethic and the human rights topics they're passionate about. Our message of intrinsic human dignity is one that every corner of the Earth needs to hear.” The Rehumanize International team reports that the 2020 event included attendees from all over the U.S., as well as from Latin America, Ireland, the U.K., Japan, and Australia. “The great thing about our online event is that it vastly improves the accessibility of our much-needed message: in this time when a still-deadly pandemic is ravaging the world, it’s vital that our spaces can include disabled and immuno-compromised activists and leaders in our organizing,” Murphy continued. Additionally, the human rights organization offers fee waivers to ensure that financial status will not be an impediment to attendance. The annual conference serves as a regular gathering for Consistent Life Ethic advocates around the globe, where human rights activists can recollect, learn together, brainstorm together amongst allies and friends.
The #Rehumanize2021 Conference schedule features world-renowned speakers talking about hard issues, like: Anita Cameron with Not Dead Yet, speaking on "Assisted Suicide & Disability Justice"; James Yee, speaking on "Religious Persecution in Guantanamo Bay"; Sabrina Butler-Smith with Witness to Innocence, sharing her personal story as a Death Row Exoneree; Mayra Rodriguez, sharing her personal story as an Undocumented Abortion Worker to Advocate for Life; Herb Geraghty, the Executive Director of Rehumanize International, will also be doing a keynote talk, "Human Rights for All Human Beings".
Tickets for the Rehumanize Conference are given on a pay-what-you-want basis and count as a tax-deductible donation that will help fund the ongoing work of Rehumanize International to build a future beyond violence. All ticket levels give the same equal access to the conference on September 4th, 2021, as well as the ability to view videos from most of the sessions after the event has concluded. “With plenty of opportunities for engagement with speakers and other conference attendees, this event is sure to challenge your apathy, increase your knowledge, and expand your horizons,” Aimee Murphy, stated. “Along with these paradigm-shifting ideas, attendees will also be given practical guidance on how to go out and challenge the systems and institutions that perpetuate oppression and build a culture of peace and life in their own communities," Herb Geraghty added.
Vital speakers on community activism include Greta Zarro from World Beyond War, and Abe Bonowitz of Death Penalty Action, who will both lead workshops on effective grassroots organizing tactics. Lauren Handy, a pro-life sidewalk advocate and founder of Mercy Missions, will lead a discussion on walking with the vulnerable from conception to natural death. Attendees will also have the opportunity to join Create | Encounter winning artist Sunrise Transparence for a guided meditation and multi-instrumental soundbath focused on mindfulness and self-care for activists. Finally, there will be multiple opportunities to network with other activists so that you can help build a culture of peace and life in your own communities. Savannah Ackerman from Rehumanize DC/Maryland/Virginia will be leading a session on her experience forming the flagship Rehumanize Chapter and giving you practical tips to start your own. You will also have the chance to network with other attendees in your geographical region in breakout rooms to discuss which issues affect your community most.
