Who deserves human rights? The answer to this question is the crux of all moral and political action in society, and defines our character as individuals and as nations. Aimee Murphy seeks to answer this vital question in this talk on the Consistent Life Ethic. Beyond the confines of political parties or religious exclusion, the founder of Rehumanize International communicates an aspiration to an inclusive ideal of a consistent movement of every human standing for every human.

A panel moderated by Herb Geraghty featuring activists with a personal connection to the death penalty. Participants include survivors of violent crimes, crime victim family members, and an individual who himself was wrongfully convicted for murder who faced the possibility of being executed for a crime he didn’t commit.

If you oppose the death penalty, attend this session to learn the basic pragmatics of why we oppose executions, what is happening in death penalty repeal efforts across the country, and how you can be involved. We'll also explore avenues for educating our own communities as we work to stop individual executions in states still using the death penalty.

Reprotection’s work focuses on state enforcement of abortion regulations. We see firsthand the absolute disregard the abortion industry shows towards pregnant people, and we hold them accountable for their dangerous practices. And in a post-roe world, our work will be more important than ever.

A panel featuring Beth Fox, an individual with disabilities, and Lauren Pope, a mother of children with disabilities, share their experience navigating difficult diagnoses during pregnancy and infancy. Speakers will discuss the issue both from the perspective of a parent receiving a poor prenatal prognosis and an individual living the outcome of that prognosis. Moderated by Maria Oswalt.

An Army infantry veteran shows two significant ways war dehumanizes our troops, that war IS a life issue, and how we can genuinely support our troops by taking a human rights stance that rehumanizes both our troops and foreign policy. See our troop's rights, their well-being, war, foreign policy, and life issues in a new light. Leave with resources to protect and heal troops and veterans.

Drawing from experiences living alongside people trapped in war zones, Kathy will use images and anecdotes to emphasize the inhumanity of war. This presentation will rely on storytelling to grapple with these important matters.

Since the beginning of legalized killing in America, there has been a just as long history of pro-life resistance. In the 80s and 90s, over 70,000 pro-lifers were arrested for civil disobedience. People put their bodies between the oppressed and the oppressors by living out the call: "Abortion is murder. Act like it!" In this session, you will learn the history of pro-life direct action as well as current approaches as some activists return to Rescue.

This workshop will address why abortion healing is needed and the impact abortion healing has on the individuals involved and their future decision making should they again face an unexpected pregnancy. Karin Barbito will share her experience of having an abortion at age 18, the impact that had on her life, her decades-later realization that this was a wound for her that needed to be healed, and the life-altering freedom she found that changed the course of her career and her life.

What do you know about the draft? The Selective Service System is a failure and has caused deep and lasting harm to millions of men and people assigned male at birth in the US. Right now, in a false gesture toward "gender equality," some members of Congress are pushing to expand Selective Service registration to women. These efforts have opened up an opportunity for us to work for real justice and authentic equality by undoing the harm done to men for decades and preventing millions of women from being harmed by this unjust system.

It's time for a crash course in the legal history of religious liberty! Can a "Satanic abortion ritual" trump pro-life legislation? How does religious liberty impact efforts to protect life in the womb? Kelsey Hazzard provides a valuable introduction to a new frontier in abortion litigation.

This panel will bring together high school, college, and graduate student age activists who embrace a Consistent Life Ethic to discuss their unique perspectives. Why does humankind continue to be plagued by war? Catholic pacifists blame the just war tradition of their Church, which they say can be invoked to justify any war. This talk argues that the problem is not the just war tradition but the unjust war tradition. Ambitious rulers start wars that cannot be justified, and yet warriors continue to fight them. Selective conscientious objection, the right and duty to refuse to fight unjust wars, is the solution.

Consistent Life Ethic voters have very little political representation in a country where every major party defends or promotes some form of violence against human beings. Some members of our movement have sought to fix this by running third party or by standing up to their own political party. In this panel, Herb Geraghty invites some of these individuals to discuss what led them to run for office and how others can get involved in the political process.

For many activists, it is easy to fall into cycles of constant intensity, needing to always “do.” Serving, educating, demonstrating, and other externally directed activities are vitally important, but without sufficient space to ground and reconnect to our own internal selves and humanity, burnout and over-extension can sneak up on us. This experiential guided meditation and multi-instrumental soundbath session provides a trauma-informed space to breathe, ground, and connect/reconnect to one’s inner self, values, and supports.

Alex Vernon will share from personal and professional experience how consistent life advocates can take concrete steps to assist migrants and refugees. Learn how you can: offer shelter or even sanctuary, get migrants released from detention, assist with self employment and self-sufficiency, help undocumented people know their legal rights, identify and assist victims of human trafficking, help migrants secure competent legal assistance and avoid exploitation.

The Supreme Court's June decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization reversed Roe v. Wade and made it possible for pro-lifers to enact laws protecting preborn children. This panel will explore what policies have historically worked to protect the unborn and what individuals can do to support pregnant and parenting people in their own communities. Moderated by Herb Geraghty.

In recent months, international attention has been brought to Canada’s controversial euthanasia laws. From abortion to police brutality and the death penalty, black Americans suffer disproportionate amounts of state-sanctioned lethal violence. The circle is a dialog process rooted in the ancient wisdom of indigenous communities who recognized its value in building community, fostering trust, strengthening relationships, and addressing harm. As a peacemaking tool for the work of restorative/transformative justice, the process assumes the dignity of each participant and offers a safe space in which to be seen and heard. In this session, we will use the circle process to explore some of the content of the conference's earlier sessions.

In an increasingly polarized society, our conversations have become increasingly difficult. We will share a few ways to help with conversations about those hot-button topics and share resources that focus on ways to have more positive dialogue outcomes. We also hope to have this be an interactive session, giving participants a chance to practice some skills!

Heather Thompson and Jeri Fields, DC Peace Team Restorative Justice Facilitators, are passionate about restorative processes and the positive impact they have upon individuals and communities. Restorative processes are rooted in the ancient wisdom of indigenous communities who recognized the value of building community, fostering trust, strengthening relationships, and addressing harm. As such, restorative processes embrace the dignity of each participant by providing a safe and dedicated space where each is invited to share.

From San Francisco to Pittsburgh, universities and other institutions across the United States are receiving federal tax dollars in order to perform barbaric experiments on the bodies of unborn children killed by abortion. This panel will hear from those who are on the ground working to expose and shut down these unethical practices.
